Music Professor Dee Spencer appeared on the KQED-FM program "Forum" on Oct. 2 for an in-depth discussion of the history of jazz piano.
"After Thelonious Monk came onto the scene, everyone was just taken by storm," Spencer said in between samples of jazz standards. "They either were trying to figure what he was doing, imitate him, they were discount what he was doing, or figure out how to do things that opposite of him. His mark has been left."
